BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE: "Our Lady of Victories was built between 1849 and 1851 when Clapham was one of the new, densely populated London suburbs that had mushroomed in the countryside south of the Thames. "William Wardell, a young Catholic, was the architect. "By the end of the century the church had to be enlarged to accommodate the growing population."
